Wipeout 64 2 Player on Nintendo 64 retro games console

www.retrogamingcollector.com ---------------- 2 Player Wipeout 64 playing on the Nintendo 64retro games console. Retro Gaming. This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability. It's simply a quick demonstration of the game so that anyone not familiar with these old games can see what it looks like. It's also here so that I can embed it, along with most of the games in my collection, on my website (see link above). Any opinions or comments I make regarding these games should largely be taken with a pinch of salt. They are usually based on my first impressions after a very brief play.

Playing with Andrea!!! How cool!!! lol

Your lovely wife beat you and that made my day ha ha. The graphics look more moulded and less detailed but as you say it could be because of it being in two player mode. Does the N64 version have the same game music as the PS1 version i.e. The prodigy, Orbital and the like… ?

By the way, when you get really good at 2097 it really is a top draw gaming experience. It’s a classic.

I think games in general on the N64 looked less detailed than PS1 games.

Wipeout 64 is looking good here. Better than I expected.

  • Mcsleeve says:

I think music is completely different

  • RetroGamerVX says:

ahhh, you complete…(can I call you a bastard steve, please :o ) ), I have this, but on the wii, I want it for the 64!!

  • RetroGamerVX says:

I like it on the 64 because it does not try and kill you off on the first few levels (can hardly hear the game though) :o ( Other than that, good game.

We play games together quite often, but usually on the Wii or PS3 downstairs which is hooked up to a plasma TV.
Sadly, recording a plasma is just as bad as recording a CRT… so it’s very rare you get to see stuff like this.

We did play a couple of other games, which I recorded, so they’ll be getting uploaded some time after I’m done with this Wipeout series.

There’s definitely some commercial music on this cart, but I haven’t played it enough to know which bands. I’m sure I recognised a track by Fluke though.

  • SteveBenway says:

I dunno… using the classic controller on the Wii has to beat using this stupid steaming pile of nastiness they call a controller on the N64.

We were playing quite late in the evening, and next door’s kids will have been in bed (their room is right next to the games room), so the TV sound was down quite low.
It has to be up stupidly loud for the camera to pick it up effectively, hence the often crap sound on my vids.

I think I’ve only played this in one player mode, I really liked this game when I played it back in 2000, I never owned it though. Like you, my biggest complaint about the game is the rather slow drawing on the screen, it take take a while for the graphics to be drawn on the screen as you’re speeding along, clearly the game doesn’t make good use of the N64′s CPU or the coding wasn’t done very well.

  • SteveBenway says:

I have a feeling the issue with draw distance is more to do with limitations of the hardware itself, than of shoddy coding, as I’ve seen it happen on quite a lot of N64 games.
I couldn’t say if it’s a lack of CPU power, or system memory, or maybe both.
It’s kind of a trade off though. PS1s have that awful texture smearing on close up objects, while N64s have a poor draw distance.

  • RetroGamerVX says:

@SteveBenway Wow, you should live next to me, my neighbours have no consideration for others (until we got the police out on them at least lol). You should play the single player version though, the fact that it does not kill you allows you to get to faster and more challenging races and it’s a lot of fun. As for the popup, I aint noticed it on the single player, but I do have the wii version so that may be a factor :o )

  • RetroGamerVX says:

@SteveBenway To be honest, I’d prefer the less detail and smoothness of the 64 graphics than the blocky graphics of the ps1 which just put you off. :o )

  • SteveBenway says:

I recorded a one player game a few hours ago, and will be uploading that one tomorrow.
I still didn’t do very well, but did get a better impression of the game.

  • RetroGamerVX says:

Ah, don’t worry yourself, I have a ghouls and ghosts video uploading (should be up in 2 hours) and I could not get past the first few minutes of the game and it even crashed on me (I left that in) so I’m probably just as bad as you at this. That’s probably why I started this, as I saw that other people who loved gaming, but were not brilliant at it, were doing videos too :o )

  • SteveBenway says:

    I’m completely the opposite.
Actually, I talk a bit about that in an upcoming video… there… just to get you all waiting with baited breath.
(I’ve never understood that phrase. Baited with what? And why would someone do that? To catch what? And what do you do when that something takes the bait? Bite?)

  • SteveBenway says:

I look forward to watching that :)

  • RetroGamerVX says:

@SteveBenway You on about playstation vs n64 there steve?

  • RetroGamerVX says:

@RetroGamerVX Oh, and have you got pod racing (star wars) on the 64, i’d love to see a review of that? (star wars racer I think it’s called), that’s a good game in my humble opinion.

  • SteveBenway says:

*grins and says nothing about a couple of very good semi-related games videos already in the bag and ready for upload after this series* ;)

  • SteveBenway says:

Kind of. I favour the jagged graphics over fuzzy anti-aliasing.

  • RetroGamerVX says:

@SteveBenway Hmm, depends, have you got banjo kazooi on the 64, I thought that looked lovely (got it on order) but with the fast games, the pixilled graphics of the playstation I found a put off. The other problem that really irritated me with playstation games was the poor camera control with the camera often going through walls etc, a think I never noticed happen on the 64.

  • RetroGamerVX says:

@SteveBenway I do that too Steve, I film several together than plan the order of release, I have a video on the dingoo a320 shot already but don’t plan to put it up for a while. I don’t do post production until they are due up either, they just sit as the seperately shot scenes on my drive lol

  • wolframf says:

Andrea should do videos too, she’s a great player. Or she should play and you should review while she do that, lol.
    (Just kidding)
