‘StarCraft 2′ No Longer Adult-Only With 12+ Rating In South Korea

Given that the ESRB granted "StarCraft 2" a T for Teen rating, it may have come as a surprise to some when South Korea's Games Ratings Board rated the game 18+. Blizzard appealed the rating, however, and now says their sequel, which "World of Warcraft"-subscribing Koreans will play for free, has been granted a 12+ rating instead.
"The result of the appeal that we put into that rating is that 'StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty' is currently rated 12+ in the region," Blizzard PR manager Bob Colayco told MTV News.
That should be great new for Blizzard and Korean Internet cafes alike, considering massive fan-base the series has there. It also means that a younger generation of South Korean won't be kept from following in the footsteps of elite online players who emerged from their country thanks to the first "StarCraft."
In fact, the only group I expect to be disappointed with this 12+ switch will be international competitors outside of Korea who will have to combat an entire age bracket from the country that might have otherwise been kept out thanks to their teen status.
Do you think 12+ is a better rating for "StarCraft 2"? Do you fear Korean competition when the final game comes out? Share your reactions in the comment section below.
